Over the past four years, I’ve been a staple on the red carpet at Producers Guild Awards – but this year’s experience marked a new beginning. Minority groups across the spectrum were represented in the projects being recognized, and there was a true sense of unity in the room. For the first time, I felt like we’ve turned the corner and are finally headed in a new direction — diversity is being celebrated.
I spoke to Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians), Kenya Barris (Creator of “Blackish”), Alfonso Cuarón (Roma), Kevin Feige (Chairman of Marvel, “Black Panther”) and many more who shared their common sense of fortitude to continue this effort and create lasting change.
As a mixed woman of color (Filipino, Spanish, Mexican, Italian), I am incredibly proud to be celebrating an awards season when all of my ethnicities are represented on both sides of the camera!
